Enjoy and have fun! WINNER FOR BEST PERSONALITY PORTRAITLast week we explored photojournalism. One of the best things you can do as a photojournalist is to capture a GREAT composition while also capturing the personality of your subject. Hanson of Period 7 really nailed it by combining the two to give us a snapshot of what life is like for his mom nowadays. Way to go Hanson! (want to see your photo featured on next week's post? be sure to do the street story project with gumption!) Photojournalism BeatsNice work everyone on testing the waters with Photojournalism! Our first week going back to required work ...Click on the schedule below to learn more about what we are doing each day in class and how to complete work. Remember, we are turning everything into our google classroom and our work together is required. If you don't know what that means, email me ASAP: [email protected] Photos from last time ...Check out what everyone did for their free choice photo challenge submissions. Great work!
Photo Challenge #16 - FREE CHOICEYou heard it right, do what you feel! I want to see what interests you, excites you, have fun with this! As my nephew says, it's freestyle. Do you. We won't have photo challenges over Spring Break, so feel free to do this one today or take the break next week to explore. I'm excited to see what you come up with. As for me, my free choice turned into an abstract adventure. I picked a tulip from a neighboring yard, messed around with my focus settings, and put the flower up against my window to back-light it. I'm very stoked with the results! And that's the whole point of this challenge. Be excited by your artwork! If you feel stuck, I've also left a couple links below that may help to inspire you ... Photos from YesterdayWow! Yesterday felt like summer and y'all captured it beautifully. I know some of you decided to take some this morning, so keep them coming! Check out the class gallery below:
Photo Challenge #15 - Golden HourCapture golden hour! For this challenge, you are going to need to wait until sunset time tonight. The sun will completely set at 7:50pm tonight. So that means you have between about 6:30pm - 7:30pm to take a good golden hour photo, because as you may remember golden hour occurs during the hour the sun is RISING in the morning and during the hour before it SETS in the evening. Some things to think about: - Make sure you can see the sun from where you're taking the photo, that way you know which direction the light is coming from. - Capture the GOLDEN light, because that's the whole point! Photos from yesterdayGlad to see y'all trying your hand at following the light. It's the biggest strength a photographer can have, knowing the direction of light and how to harness it. After all, photography means "to paint with light"! It's what we do!
Nice work, everyone. And thank you for your participation, I really love seeing your work! Here's the gallery to check out what everyone did: Photo Challenge #14 - A selfie 3 waysToday you are going to take 3 photos. You can take selfies, or recruit someone in your house. It's up to you. But the trick is, each photo needs to display a different direction of light. Watch the video below to see what I mean. You can use side light, back light, and front light like I did if you want to. But if you want to explore different directions, I've included a link for you to explore! Have fun! Photos from YesterdayDang, y'all! I love what you did with the monochromatic challenge. Nice work! Take a look at what everyone did:
Photo Challenge #13 - MonochromaticMonochromatic. It is defined by creating a scene using only one color. It's a tricky one! But that's why this is a challenge. Create a scene with more than just one thing in the frame. But all objects must be the same color. So, for example, in my image, I used a yellow chair, my yellow chicken, and a yellow journal to create the scene. And check out the link from Expert Photography for some tips! P.S. YES! USE COLOR! DON'T TURN THIS SUCKER BLACK AND WHITE -- THAT'S CHEATING IN THIS CASE :) Photos From YesterdayAh, we have conquered dappled light, my friends! Way to go! Check out what everyone else did:
Photo Challenge #12 - Dappled Light!Ah! Dappled Light, our arch nemesis from our first quiz. Remember, dappled light refers to that spotted light which typically comes through gaps in a tree canopy. For the example I provided, I found light coming through our blinds in the living room and projected the beams onto my husband's face. You can take a picture of ground with dappled light projected onto the surface, you can put your hand up into the beams, or you can grab someone in your house! The adventure is yours. P.S. We are going to do things old school style this week and do a challenge each day. So check back here tomorrow to get the next prompt! Photos From Last WeekWOW! Your photo series turned out amazing! Way to use that creativity. Check out what everyone else did:
This Week's Photo Challenge: A photo seriesThis week we are going to mix up the photo challenge activities. Instead of doing a photo challenge every day, we are going to create a full photo series. Don't know what a photo series is? That's okay! Watch this instructional video: What is occupying your mind this week?Your challenge this week is to create a photo series explaining what has been occupying your mind this week. Below are some instructions: #1 - Do not create today. Just let the project settle in your mind. Brainstorm and journal some ideas. #2 - Make 4-6 photographs throughout the week that explore what you've been thinking about. #3 - Use a free app like Unfold, Google Photos, Canva, or Adobe Spark to stitch the photos together into one document. #4- Upload your new layout, your photo series, to our google classroom by Friday April 3. Email me if you have any questions! Pictures from FridayA lot of great scenes here, my friends! I'm glad to see you all out and about and exploring the world from a different point of view! Check out what everyone did:
Photo Challenge #10 - Birds Eye ViewFor this one, get up high. Climb some stairs, or a tree, or ... whatever else that you can climb without your mom freaking out. We're talking about taking a photo from BIRDS EYE VIEW, remember that? So go climb something. Take the world in for a minute, what looks different? Then take a picture. You have the weekend for this one. And remember to submit your photo to OUR GOOGLE CLASSROOM!!! See y'all again on Monday. PEACE! Photos from YesterdayEveryone got pretty creative with the water photos from yesterday. Love how you all are pushing your boundaries and working with what you've got! Click the button below to see our entire class gallery: Video: What is Contrast? Many folks asked about contrast in the survey I sent out last week. What is it? When to use it? How to create it? Remember, CONTRAST refers to the arrangement of opposite elements (light vs. dark colors, rough vs. smooth textures, large vs. small shapes, etc.) in a piece so as to create visual interest, excitement and drama. This short video will show you what adding contrast via PHOTOSHOP looks like. If you don't have photoshop, that's ok. Grab your phone and download either the VSCO app or Snapseed. These are both awesome tools to edit your photos on the go! |
